Drought Support

Drought Support
Our region currently has eight local government areas (LGAs) afflicted by drought. We are committed to supporting farmers and communities affected by drought in our region.
Funding is being invested in drought affected areas through our PHN under the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Empowering our Communities (EoC) Initiative.
Initiatives We Fund
We are working with community leaders, farmers and their families and local community organisations and group to fund community-led mental health, suicide prevention, and social and emotional wellbeing initiatives.

Community Event Grants
Community events funded by our PHN aim to promote community resilience and enhance community wellbeing through group-based activities that deliver mental health and wellbeing benefits to individuals.

Community Connections Program
Our PHN has commissioned Lifeline Darling Downs and South West QLD to deliver the Community Connections Program.
The Community Connections Program delivers training to community members to act as gatekeepers, trusted advocates and referrers for drought affected community members and their families. The trusted advocates can:
- recognise and respond to signs of distress
- identify the most appropriate referral point
- assist community members to access required mental health and other relevant supports.

Drought Calendar
Under the Empowering our Communities (EoC) Initiative, our PHN has partnered with Neami National to develop the 2020-2021 (financial year) Drought Calendar.
The Calendar aims to confront stigma and promote awareness of available mental health supports in the region.
