Further support for mental health in rural and regional Australia

August 07, 2018

The Turnbull Government recently announced funding to support the mental health of farmers, mining workers and Indigenous Australians living in rural and regional Australia. The additional support will be delivered through two counselling organisations, Aussie Helpers and Rural and Remote Mental Health, with both organisations receiving $1 million to further support the mental health of people living in the bush. Aussie Helpers’ Virtual Psychologist provides a 24-hour SMS and phone counselling service for rural and remote communities as well as advise and referral services for local practitioners.

Rural and Remote Mental Health offers tailored support for the agricultural and mining sectors as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, which includes a strong online present and telephone support available 24/7.

We applaud these initiatives that will assist people living in rural and regional communities within our region.
