As a result of the valuable efforts of health services participating in the National Patient Blood Management Collaborative (NPBMC), the Commission has been able to collate their shared resources for other health services to use to improve Patient Blood Management (PBM) at their sites.
The NPBMC sites worked to improve patient knowledge and understanding about anaemia and iron deficiency and have strengthened links with general practice to help develop early intervention strategies.
All sites recognised the imperative of harnessing GP support to help drive improved patient management through early diagnosis of anaemia and iron deficiency, initiation of effective treatment strategies and patient follow-up.
Sites also worked with their local PHNs to develop PBM clinical pathways in HealthPathways.
