Other Medical Practitioner (OMPs) programs closure date extended

November 12, 2018

As GPs may be aware, the Stronger Rural Health Strategy announced the closure of the Other Medical Practitioner (OMPs) programs as part of a broader strategy to increase the number of vocationally recognised General Practitioners providing services in Australia.

The closure of these programs to new participants was due to occur on 1st of November 2018, with a grandfathering period to 30th June 2023.

However, in order to better align with the commencement of the Fellowship Support Program and training opportunities offered by the General Practice Colleges, the OMPs programs will remain open until the 31st December 2018, with applications to be accepted by the Department of Human Services up until midnight on the 31st December 2018.

The end of the grandfathering period will remain at 30 June 2023.
