MBS Billing

The Schedule is part of the wider Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) managed by the Department of Health and administered by Department of Human Services.

MBS Online contains the latest MBS information, a listing of the Medicare services subsidised by the Australian government, and is updated as changes to the MBS occur. Our Practice Support team is available to support primary health care professionals. More information and downloads for updates are available here.

Currently the Medicare Benefits Schedule has created a MBS Taskforce which is examining in line by line each of the MBS' 5,700 plus items, to ensure they align with contemporary clinical evidence and practice and improve health outcomes for patients. The review is clinician-led and there are no targets for savings attached to the review. The Taskforce's work is ongoing. For further information visit MBS Review. Following recommendations from the Taskforce, a number of changes to the MBS will come into effect from November 2017. You can find more information on these changes on the Department of Health's website.
