Connecting Australian Healthcare – National Healthcare Interoperability Plan 2023-2028 plan released

July 18, 2023

The Australian Digital Health Agency released Australia’s first national plan to deliver a connected health system. The Connecting Australian Healthcare – National Healthcare Interoperability Plan 2023-2028 (the Plan) was developed following extensive consultations with more than 150 stakeholders. The Plan outlines a national vision to share consumer health information in a safe, secure and seamless manner and identifies 44 tangible actions across five priority areas relating to identity, standards, information sharing innovation and measuring benefits.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has established a Council for Connected Care to support national implementation of the Plan and provide strategic advice on matters related to connecting care (interoperability). The Council is chaired by Mr Rob Heferen, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and membership is drawn from a broad range of stakeholders across the health and care continuum and digital health technology sector. The inaugural meeting of the Council for Connected Care took place on 7 June 2023.
