EFFECTIVE TELEPHONE AND VIDEO CONSULTATIONS
The Australian Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has placed increased importance on primary health care providers utilising telehealth.
GPs and health care providers in our region are eligible to use healthdirect Australia Video Call platform for free to deliver care via video consultations. To sign up please contact email@example.com to get connected.

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIBING EXPECTED MAY 2020
The Australian Government Department of Health and Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) are fast-tracking the implementation of an electronic prescription service, which is expected to be rolled out in May 2020. Electronic prescriptions are an alternative to paper prescriptions and allow people more convenient access to their medicines.
The early rollout aims to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections being spread in general practice waiting rooms and community pharmacies. The fast-tracked solution is a unique QR barcode known as a ‘token’ sent to a patient via an app, SMS or email.
Legislative changes were introduced in November 2019 to make electronic prescriptions a legal alternative to paper. For further information visit the Australian Digital Health Agency website and the Department of Health website.
PRACTICE INCENTIVE PAYMENTS (PIP) – GENERAL PRACTICE SUPPORT
Several temporary measures under the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) and Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) have been implemented by the Australian Government Department of Health and Services Australia to support practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more

MY HEALTH RECORD IN PRIVATE SPECIALIST PRACTICE
Specialist practices are being encouraged to sign up for My Health Record. My Health Record enables access clinical documents reducing the time it takes to gather information, avoids duplication of diagnostic tests and works to improve clinical decisions. For further information click here.

GP SMART REFERRALS IN DARLING DOWNS – STILL ‘BUSINESS AS USUAL’
Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN has partnered with Darling Downs Health to implement Smart Referrals in the Darling Downs Health region. The first implementation of Smart Referrals to general practices is planned for mid-June 2020. Smart Referrals will then be progressively rolled out across the region.
GP Smart Referrals are digital referrals integrated with GP practice management software (currently Best Practice and Medical Director) to enable faster, streamlined management of referrals to Queensland Public Hospitals. Smart Referrals simplifies access to Specialist Outpatient Services, leading to better and efficient health outcomes for patients. They also provide GPs with a new way to track their patient’s specialist outpatient care.
