December 03, 2021

Managing COVID-19 positive patients in the community – the role of general practice in Queensland

Queensland Primary Health Networks (PHNs), Queensland Health, local hospital and health services, the Australian Government Department of Health, Healthdirect, Health Consumers Queensland and peak agencies (e.g. RACGP) continue to be involved in planning for general practices, about caring for low-risk or mild COVID-19 positive patients in the community, in a rapidly evolving environment.

Information will be sent to general practices as soon as it’s available about:
  • Basic information regarding triaging and assessment of patients who are COVID-19 positive.
  • The COVID-19 Case Management Pathway, which will guide GPs about the process involved including risk assessment, notifications, method of care, escalation pathways, social support services, PPE, follow-up care.
  • Funding mechanisms

Additional information will be provided to general practice staff and the primary care workforce at the Queensland Living with COVID-19 Pathways Planning Update Webinar organised by Queensland PHNs, this coming Monday.

We will continue to provide information to general practices as it becomes available.
