COVID-19: GP Alert (4 January 2021)

Testing at GP Respiratory Clinics to include asymptomatic patients who have visited Victoria and Greater Sydney

Please be aware that GP Respiratory Clinics currently have approval to conduct targeted asymptomatic testing on patients self-presenting for COVID-19 testing who have visited Victoria, Greater Sydney, and/or any of the listed high-risk venues, or otherwise directed by jurisdictional public health authorities and advice to get tested.

This approval is temporary and is in place until Wednesday, 6 January 2021. Additional update/s will be provided if there are any changes to the date and scope of the current Commonwealth approval for asymptomatic testing by GP Respiratory Clinics.

Patients must make an appointment before attending a GP Respiratory Clinic. Please contact clinics to book your appointment.

GP Respiratory Clinic operating hours

Patients will need to book their appointments with the individual clinic as per the instructions on our COVID-19 webpage. Please note the changes to operating hours for the GP Respiratory Clinics over the Christmas/New Year period (The clinics are monitoring and adapting to the situation through additional staff and hours as required).

Additional testing options:

  • The Charlton Testing Clinic continues to be open in the Darling Downs from 8:30am to 4:00pm seven days a week. The testing clinic is available to people travelling in cars, trucks and vehicles with caravans. For more information, click here.
  • The Baillie Henderson Fever Clinic (drive-through) in Toowoomba has been temporarily opened. The clinic is open today until 4:00pm and tomorrow Tuesday, 5 January from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Darling Downs Health are closely monitoring the situation and will review again tomorrow as to possible extension.
  • Darling Downs Health rural hospital sites may also provide COVID-19 testing if required for local residents (contact specific hospital ahead of time).
  • The Ipswich Hospital Fever Clinic continues to be open from 8:00am – 4:00pm seven days a week (including public holidays except Christmas Day). For more information, click here.

UPDATED – Border restrictions

While Queensland’s borders remain unchanged, anyone currently in Queensland who has been in Victoria on or since Monday 21 December should get tested immediately and quarantine at home or their accommodation until receiving a negative COVID-19 test result.
Queenslanders are urged to reconsider non-essential travel to New South Wales and Victoria as the situation in each state is concerning and border arrangements may change. Queensland residents that are currently in New South Wales or Victoria should consider returning home.

Update to hospital, aged care, disability accommodation facility entry requirements

After 1am AEST Monday 4 January 2021, Queensland hospitals, aged care facilities and disability accommodation facilities are closed to all visitors that have been in Victoria on or since Monday 21 December 2020 or left Victoria less than 14 days ago.
Visitors are also restricted to correctional facilities.
