Critical shortage of iodinated contrast media – information for GPs
June 07, 2022
The national and global availability of iodinated contrast media has been affected by supply chain issues related to COVID-19 lockdowns and supplies are now critically low. Queensland Health is closely monitoring current and projected stock levels and is working with vendors and the Commonwealth Government to maximise available supplies.
Queensland Health iodinated contrast media supplies will be prioritised by senior clinicians for use in urgent and time-critical procedures that cannot be done without contrast or alternative modality and cannot be safely deferred.
During this critical shortage, GPs are encouraged to seek advice from radiology providers for alternative diagnostic tests that do not require iodinated contrast media.
