Darling Downs Health November Update 2019

November 05, 2019

Farewell to Dr Patty Lee-Apostol

Dr Lee Apostol has been a Palliative Care Physician at Toowoomba Hospital since 2015 providing an inpatient consult service and outpatient clinics. She is sadly moving out of our area and will finish up in the role on Friday the 8th November.

She has provided a valuable service and will be greatly missed. While we work to recruit a replacement for Dr Apostle the specialist nurse led palliative care service will continue. Please contact the Clinical Nurse Consultant Karen Mackellar on 4616 5168 with any clinical concerns.

Referral Centre Delays

The nursing staff in the referral centre have been working multiple overtime shifts to reduce the delays in processing referrals. There have also been more nurses recruited and trained to increase the capacity of the referral centre, who are now receiving an average of 1300 referrals/associated correspondence per week.

In the interim we value your assistance by sending only one copy of each referral, utilising secure electronic messaging where possible and clearly marking referrals requiring urgent outpatient review for priority processing. Please also call the Referral centre on 1800‑875‑476 before faxing an urgent specialist outpatient referral. (Toowoomba Hospital Referral Centre
