Inaugural West Moreton Paediatric Symposium a success
December 06, 2019
Over 70 GPs and health professional from across the West Moreton region attended the inaugural West Moreton Paediatric Symposium - A General Practice Approach at the weekend.
The Symposium, held on Saturday, 30 November, was the first-of-its-kind in the region and featured presentations from leading local paediatricians, psychologists, physiotherapists and social workers.
Targeted at GPs and other health professionals, the one-day intensive education event provided advice and tips accompanied by extensive resources to assist clinicians when treating children and young people with developmental and behavioural needs.
Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN CEO Merrilyn Strohfeldt said the PHN had been working diligently over the past 12 months to improve access to high quality education opportunities for health professionals working in the region.
“The West Moreton Paediatric Symposium was a fantastic opportunity for GPs and health professionals to increase their confidence when addressing the needs of children and young people who visit their practices,” Ms Strohfeldt said.
Senior Paediatrician at Ipswich Hospital Dr Ian Shellshear, who featured as a guest speaker at the event, said paediatric care was a topic of particular interest to local clincians.
“Paediatric behavioural and developmental problems are a cause of anxiety to many general practitioners as there is little training in this area,” Dr Shellshear said.
The West Moreton Paediatric Symposium - A General Practice Approach covered topics such as acute paediatrics, developmental and behavioural paediatrics, paediatric polypharmacy and paediatric MBS billing.
