Media Release: Millmerran Medical Centre closure - Transferring your medical records
January 06, 2020
Patients impacted by the recent closure of Millmerran Medical Centre can request that their medical records be transferred to another practice.
Darling Downs and West Moreton CEO Merrilyn Strohfeldt said it is important for patients to know how to have their medical records transferred between health service providers.
“We know that the Millmerran community is still reeling from the closure of its medical practice and while this issue is being sorted out, patients can request their medical records be transferred to another practice. In the instance they have a My Health Record, its also timely that they check it is up to date,” Ms Strohfeldt said.
My Health Record is an online summary of your key health information that travels with you. It enables healthcare providers involved in your care to access your important health information. Patients who have a My Health Record can check if their information is up to date by visiting myhealthrecord.gov.au.
“Even If you do have a My Health Record, it is still important to ask your new doctor to have your medical records transferred to their practice so information can be kept up to date and previous medical history isn’t lost,” Ms Strohfeldt said.
Patients have the right to be informed about all personal information held about them. They can request their medical records be transferred from their previous practice to their new practice when they have their initial consult with their new doctor.
