Media Release: New respiratory clinic opens in Warwick
May 05, 2020
A new GP-led respiratory clinic to test patients for COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses is now open in Warwick.
The Condamine Medical Centre GP Respiratory Clinic is available to clinically assess people with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms (a fever, cough, shortness of breath, a sore throat and/or unusual fatigue).
Respiratory clinics are being established as a part of the Australian Government Department of Health’s response to COVID-19 and Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN has been supporting this process locally in the Darling Downs and West Moreton region.
PHN CEO Merrilyn Strohfeldt said the clinics were available to anyone in the community who had symptoms suggestive of COVID-19.
“One of the key strategies to control COVID-19 in our communities is to detect new cases of the virus as early as possible to allow for contract tracing to minimise spread of the virus,” Ms Strohfeldt said.
“This strategy appears to be working in Australia and as we move forward, it will be more important than ever that we pick up any localised pockets of infection to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
Federal Member for Maranoa, the Hon David Littleproud, welcomed the announcement of the new clinic in Warwick.
“This Commonwealth Government initiative is adding vital capacity to the Condamine Medical Centre, whose staff have worked tirelessly to implement the COVID-19 protocols and establish this specialised respiratory clinic,” Mr Littleproud said.
“Since this pandemic first became a recognised threat to our communities in the Downs region, I’ve been humbled by the response of our health professionals who’ve rapidly adapted to take care of communities across Maranoa.
“The Government is committed to ensuring our rural and remote communities have all the tools they need to keep coronavirus at bay, and the capacity to deal with cases if they emerge.”
The Condamine Medical Centre GP Respiratory Clinic is located at 67 Guy St, Warwick and is open from 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 11:30am Saturday. Bookings are essential - anyone wishing to be seen at the respiratory clinic must make an appointment. To make an appointment, people can call 07 4666 9666.
