Media Release: Nurturing Life: Perinatal Care Symposium

Health professionals who provide antenatal and postnatal care to families have the opportunity to attend the Darling Downs Perinatal Care Symposium this Saturday. The Symposium is designed to address how health professionals, including GPs, nurses, midwives and support staff, can better support the first 1000 days of life through collaborative and consistent care.
The Symposium, a collaboration between Darling Downs Health and Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN, will be held at the Highfields Cultural Centre in Highfields, from 8:00am to 4.30pm.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our health professionals to come together and share their knowledge and experiences with antenatal and postnatal care. We are proud to support this education opportunity that works to strengthen care for families during this exciting but often vulnerable time in their lives,” says Merrilyn Strohfeldt, CEO of Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN.
Key speakers for the day include, Dr Sheila Cook, Director of Medicine at Toowoomba Hospital, Dr Wendy Burton, Chair of the RACGP Antenatal/Postnatal Care Specific Interest Network and Dr Pam Douglas, Manager and Editor of the Possums for Mothers and Babies website.
Topics will address breastfeeding, infant sleep, preconception, the first trimester and nutrition in pregnancy, among other topics.
The Darling Downs Perinatal Care Symposium is on this Saturday, 1 June at the Highfields Cultural Centre in Highfields from 8:00am – 4.30pm.
