National Cancer Screening Register
November 20, 2019
This week the current National Bowel Cancer Screening Program Register (NBCSP) operated by the Department of Human Services transitioned over to the National Cancer Screening Register to create a single national record for participants of the NBCSP and the National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP).
As part of this transition, new register functionality is expected to be available from March 2020 that will enable healthcare providers to submit Program forms electronically. Payment for Program forms will conclude with the introduction of this functionality.
General practitioners and specialists that have previously received a payment for submitting a paper program form to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program have been sent a letter about the conclusion of information payments in 2020.
On 18 November 2019, the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program transitioned to the National Cancer Screening Register.
Letter recipients have been advised that any GP Assessment Report, Colonoscopy and Histopathology Report, Procedure Report - Adverse Outcomes, and Histopathology Report Program forms submitted from November 2019 will be subject to new payment arrangements and further advice will be provided to them regarding these arrangements. The Department of Health expects to make a once off lump sum payment to healthcare providers who continue to submit Program forms from November 2019. The lump sum payment is likely to be made soon after March 2020.
