PHN NAIDOC Week celebrations

July 31, 2023

This year’s National NAIDOC Week theme – ‘For our Elders’ - acknowledged that in every generation, elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.

This NAIDOC Week, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN continued its commitment to ensuring the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard and considered in all of our decisions and actions.

The PHN continued its NAIDOC Week celebrations with staff attending the Ipswich NAIDOC Family and Cultural Celebration.

This year’s Ipswich NAIDOC was coordinated by Ipswich City Council and supported by Kambu Health Service and Lendlease Communities.

The day was packed with cultural activities, live performances, storytelling sessions, art exhibitions and more.

The event was a great opportunity for staff to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

By improving cultural understanding throughout our PHN, we can influence sustainable change that will incorporate the knowledge, traditions, customs and values of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples and their cultures.

With improved understanding, we will be able to provide efficient and effective support to our key health service delivery partners to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who reside in our communities.
