R U OK? Day

September 30, 2022

This September, our PHN joined workplaces around the nation to mark R U OK? Day. With yearly increases in incidents of suicide, it is important now more than ever to reach out and lend an ear to potentially help another who is suffering in silence.

Our Springfield and Toowoomba offices joined in celebrating R U OK? Day through a virtual guided mediation with the inspirational Amy from Antara Studios. This was followed by a shared morning tea to relax and reflect on the experience.

Staff found the meditation techniques demonstrated by Amy to be effective, with an intention to continue practicing guided meditation beyond the session for vital health benefits such as reduced stress, controlling anxiety, promoting emotional health, enhancing self-awareness, and more.

The event served as a tool for us to use as a reminder to check-in with your colleagues, nearest and dearest not just on R U OK? Day, but every day. Make a commitment to ask R U OK? To anyone you think might need it or just to let them know you are thinking of them – it’s a simple question that could change a life.

For those in need of mental health support services, our recently launched Head to Health phone service helps individuals navigate mental health, suicide prevention and alcohol and other drug services in the Darling Downs and West Moreton region. Consumers, their families, carers, GPs, service providers and other health professionals can access help on 1800 595 212, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm (except public holidays).
