Reconciliation Week - Stronger And Healthier Communities Together
May 31, 2019
We are excited to support and help to raise awareness for Reconciliation Week as we work to improve our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders. We are committed to enhancing access to health services and ensure support systems are in place by working closely with service providers in the community such as Aboriginal Medical Services and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
Our region has a larger population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders (4.5%) than Queensland (4.0%) and the Nation (2.0%). We see this as our opportunity to be at the forefront of reconciliation by working with communities and health services to design programs that fit with the current local needs and future needs of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities.
We currently fund and support:
- Integrated Team Care Program
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Mental Health Support
- Alcohol and other drug support
By understanding our history and listening to the need’s of our communities, implementing an intuitive framework and actioning through a collaborative approach, we believe we can begin to close the gap and build a stronger, healthier future for all.
