Red Ant Round-Up Medical Conference 2019
March 28, 2019
One of our PHN’s keynote education events for 2019 was held earlier this month in Kingaroy. The Red Ant Round-up Medical Conference saw over 150 GPs, students, registrars, nurses, allied and other health professionals converge in Kingaroy for a weekend of education, training and a bit of fun!
The two-day conference provided high level education for health professionals living and working in our rural and regional communities helping to build the capacity of our local workforce. The weekend was also an opportunity for students and registrars to experience all that rural medicine has to offer.
2019 marked the third year that the biennial conference has been hosted in Kingaroy with our collaborative partners: GPTQ and the Kingaroy GP Chapter Network.
This year’s theme was ‘A Country Practice: Everybody’s Business’ which saw a number of topics covered across the region, including:
- Adolescent Health
- Women’s Health
- Chronic Pain Management for Rural Patients
- Men’s Health
- Altered Levels of Consciousness
- Zoonotic Diseases
- Health Professionals Health and Wellbeing
One of the highlights of the conference was the Gala Dinner sponsored by the University of Queensland with keynote speaker Dr April Armstrong from Business for Doctors. Dr Armstrong provided guests with a moving presentation about her passion for rural medicine and for making a difference for general practices across Australia.
The family friendly conference also invited families to participate across the weekend, with many children taking up the opportunity to have their faces painted, play games and interact with animals in the petting zoo through the Family Program.
We have received very positive feedback about the conference and look forward to providing more education opportunities to our rural and regional workforce, including delivering the Red Ant Round-up Medical Conference again in 2021!
