Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

April 16, 2020

On behalf of Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN, I am proud to present to you our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN is committed to working with health care providers and the wider community to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our region.

Our Reflect RAP, which was officially endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in March 2020, signifies the first step towards reconciliation for our PHN and formalises our commitment to ensuring the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard and considered in all of our decisions and actions.

Our RAP reinforces our dedication to the reconciliation process and outlines key objectives that we will be working towards over the next 12 months, ensuring we have mutually respectful and meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now and into the future.

By improving cultural understanding throughout our PHN, we can influence sustainable change that will incorporate the knowledge, traditions, customs and values of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples and their cultures.

The journey that we are now undertaking will take us another step closer to achieving our organisational vision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our region: ‘Making a difference by building healthier communities through a connected, responsive and sustainable primary health care system’.

We look forward to continuing on our reconciliation journey and continuing to work with our stakeholders to ensure we are a culturally inclusive organisation.

A formal launch for this important document for our PHN was due to be held this month, however in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this launch has been postponed. We look forward to welcoming you to an informal celebration of our Reflect RAP when it is appropriate to do so.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date with our Reflect RAP activity via our dedicated web page www.ddwmphn.com.au/rap

Sincerely,

Merrilyn Strohfeldt
