Consumer with mental health, suicide and/or alcohol and other drugs lived experience needed!
January 19, 2021
Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN is seeking a health consumer who has lived experience with mental health, suicide and/or alcohol and other drugs services within the Darling Downs and West Moreton region.
The health consumer will sit on a Steering Committee that will inform the development of the PHN's Joint Comprehensive Regional Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Alcohol and Other Drugs Plan.
In 2019, the PHN released our foundation Joint Regional Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Plan 2019 - 2021.
In 2021, we will build on this Plan and develop the Joint Comprehensive Regional Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Alcohol and Drugs Plan 2021 - 2026.
The development and implementation of these Plan's ensure that the Darling Downs and West Moreton region is best placed to ensure that all people living with a mental health condition and alcohol and other drugs use in our region can access effective and appropriate treatment.
Role of the Health Consumer
A Steering Committee has been established to support the implementation of the 2019 - 2021 Plan and inform the development of the Joint Comprehensive Regional Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Alcohol and Drugs Plan 2021 - 2026.
This Comprehensive Plan will include a five-year strategy with a vision, objectives and outcomes that have been agreed upon by a range of stakeholders in the community. The key to its success will be the voice of people in the community with lived experience.
The successful health consumer will join the Steering Committee to provide this voice.
As a member, you will be asked to:
- attend Steering Committee meetings via video conference or in person where appropriate which will be held monthly from February 2021 to September 2021
- participate in activities associated with the meetings including pre-meeting reading, discussions, provision of feedback and advice
- commit to reducing stigma around mental health and alcohol and other drug us
- ensure mental health and alcohol and other drugs services are person-centred, and information sharing respects privacy and confidentiality
Who are we looking for?
We are ideally looking for a health consumer with previous experience on a Steering Committee in health services, in particular mental health, alcohol and other drugs services. This may include hospital and health services or non-government organisations.
The next Steering Committee meeting will be held on Friday, 12 February from 1:00pm – 2:30pm via video conference.
The successful consumer may be asked to attend additional meetings as required and the option to attend in Springfield, Toowoomba and Ipswich may become available.
Consumers will be remunerated for their time in line with Health Consumers Queensland’s remuneration position statement including parking and travel.
