It is recommended that clinicians should consider also testing people with a clinically compatible illness who travelled to any of the following countries in the 14 days before onset of symptoms:
- Hong Kong
- South Korea
- Cambodia - recently added
Please read the Queensland Health COVID-19 Public Health Alert for more information.
N95 masks now available for GPs undertaking specimen collection
In response to the 2019 COVID-19 outbreak, the Department of Health has now supplied Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN with a small allocation of N95 masks. These masks are for use by GPs who are specifically willing and able to undertake specimen collection in their practice for patients with severe symptoms of pneumonia as per the Department of Health advice. Please also review Queensland Health's advise around N95 mask fit checking and the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Before advising you are willing and able to undertake specimen collection it is important to consider:
- the physical layout of your practice and whether it is suitable for isolation of patients presenting as a suspect case (including any post testing requirements);
- whether you have access to all the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), not just masks;
- your confidence in infection control procedures across your whole practice.
Please note there are several pathology collection centres across the Darling Downs and West Moreton region who can collect specimens for testing.
If you are willing and able to collect specimens and require N95 masks, please contact email@example.com with your practice details including the number of GPs who will be collecting specimens.
Due to limited supply, only small quantities will be available.
Surgical Masks Reminder
A limited supply of surgical masks are still available for general practice staff and people who may have had contact with the COVID-19. For practices requiring additional surgical masks, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
To assist with mask allocation, please tell us how many staff work at your practice.
