COVID-19: GP Alert (17 March 2021)

March 17, 2021

From 22 March additional services will commence participation in the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out as part of Phase 1B of Australia’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program.

There are 94 general practices across the Darling Downs and West Moreton region that are currently eligible to participate in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. The practices can be found using the Department of Health Eligibility Checker.

Over a four (4) week period vaccinating practices in the Darling Downs and West Moreton region will be onboarded to start administering the COVID-19 vaccine.

This will be a phased approach, and as such, participating practices will receive a limited number of vaccines in the first instance as they are onboarded.

Practices using online booking software may experience minor delays as updates are being made to the software and will take a few days to install and test. Only some practices administering the vaccine will take bookings by phone.

Patients can be advised to use the eligibility checker to ensure they are eligible for this first phase of vaccinations. Patients will need to complete the questions to receive a list of vaccine providers.

Included in the rollout for Phase 1B are six (6) GP Respiratory Clinics which will be available in our region to vaccinate people who are currently eligible as we progress through the Department of Health's COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-out Strategy.

GP Respiratory Clinics will:

  • provide COVID-19 vaccination for all people eligible within Phase 1B including those without a Medicare card;
  • continue to perform COVID-19 tests in addition to administering the vaccine - patients are required to make an appointment for COVID-19 assessment and testing.

Please ask your patients to use the vaccine eligibility checker before making an appointment.

During this time please consider updating your website, on-hold messaging, electronic booking and social media messaging to advise your patients of the vaccine eligibility checker to reduce the number of phone calls you may receive.
