West Moreton Health - new Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) at Ipswich Hospital

West Moreton Health has launched a new Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) at Ipswich Hospital. The 23-bed unit sits within Ward 7A medical ward and brings together a team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to look at all aspects of a patient’s health. Patients will have priority access to services like pathology and imaging – as well as the team’s wide experience – for comprehensive assessment, management and discharge planning. Targeting patients suitable for discharge within 48 hours (according to clinical criteria), MAPU is expected to improve the flow of patients through the emergency department and wider health service, improving overall patient experience. GPs will receive an Electronic Discharge Summary within 48 hours of the patient’s discharge. Questions and feedback can be directed to the MAPU team.
