Activity 5 – Community Based Suicide Prevention Activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

Priority area – Community based suicide prevention activities; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health services

Evidence-based and community suicide prevention activities are fundamental to support the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at risk of suicide to ensure supportive early identification and intervention strategies. In combination with Activity 4, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN have commissioned a University to work in collaboration with the Darling Downs Health and Research Collaborative (DDHRC) and the West Moreton Mental Health Collective Impact to develop a regional specific Suicide Prevention Plan.

In 2018/19, the Plan will also inform clinically endorsed and culturally appropriate recommendations to ensure alignment of suicide prevention activities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Commissioning will reflect recommended areas of need to align to provision of culturally sensitive support activities and interventions.
