Implanon Training for Healthcare Professionals

This course is designed for
Medical practitioners including GPs and GP registrars. nurses, nurse practitioners and midwives (with experience in local anaesthetic administration and contraceptive counselling).
This face to face 2 hour educational event will provide participants with information on LARCs (long acting reversible contraception) and the knowledge and skill to insert and remove Implanon in clinical practice. The training will cover:

  • The role of LARCs (long acting reversible contraception) in clinical practice
  • Counselling with regard to use of the etonogestrel implant (Implanon)
  • Insertion and removal procedures for Implanon

All participants who successfully demonstrate insertion and removal of placebos during the session, will receive a certificate of training completion, and RACGP/ACRRM points are available for GPs.

Course requirements
Medical Practitioners including GPs and GP registrars, nurses, nurse practitioners or midwifes who have current medical registration and professional indemnity insurance. Iris education recommends that participants ensure they are confident in this procedure before commencing insertion and removal in practice. Additional supervision should be arranged if there is remaining uncertainty.

​Practice or Organisation Implanon Training by Iris Education
An Implanon training session can be arranged at a mutually convenient time. The practice or organisation is responsible for venue and participants. Iris Education is responsible for training, provision of certificates to successful participants, and arranging RACGP/ACRRM points.
