Skills to Enable People & Communities

The free group programs is for adults currently aged 18 to 65 years who experienced an ABI as an adult (above 16 years) and their support person. The purpose of the program is for participants to:

  • Meet others in their local community who have experienced an acquired brain injury to develop a peer network
  • Discuss and share information about restoring and strengthening social and community participation
  • Recognise what each participate has to contribute to shared learning
  • Model practical strategies in self-care, communication, memory etc.

Each week different topics are discussed which include:

  • How the brain works
  • Changes to the brain after ABI
  • Working towards meaningful goals
  • Ways to manage stress
  • How to improve relationships
  • How to get involved with new social and support groups
