Graduate Accountant (Contract)

We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time (0.60 FTE) Graduate Accountant to join our future focused and rewarding organisation for a contract position of 12 months. This role reports to the Senior Financial Accountant will be a key member of the Finance Team.
Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN is a not for profit organisation that works at a regional level to achieve improved whole of system health care.
Our key objectives are to:
- increase the efficiency and effectiveness of health services for patients—particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes, and
- improve coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Our PHN achieves this by working with local health care stakeholders and community to:
- fund programs and services based on local health needs;
- support primary health care professionals, like GPs, general practice staff and allied health professionals, to improve the care they provide to their patients; and
- support the development of a local sustainable health care workforce.
About the role:
This role supports the Darling Downs and West Moreton Primary Health Network’s (PHN) financial activities. It is a development role for a university graduate accountant, seeking to combine on the job training with study towards a professional accounting qualification. The role will receive mentoring and development from experienced and approachable professionals across the organisation. The role is part-time (46 hours per fortnight) on a 12 month contract with the possibility of extension.
Key purpose of the role:
- Complete end of month processes including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, ensuring accurate allocation of overheads and program costs.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Contribute to the budgeting process, analysing variances, and forecasting future financial performance.
- Assist in cashflow forecasting and management.
- Track performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, and providing insights.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies
- Maintain and reconciling the fixed asset register, including depreciation calculations and asset disposals
- Participate in the development and implementation of new accounting systems and processes to improve efficiency where appropriate.
- Liaise with other departments, providing financial information to stakeholders, and collaborating with the finance team.
- Assist in the leasing process for obtaining new and disposing of company vehicles.
- Assist in the end of financial year processes including the preparation of documentation for audit.
- Assist in financial risk analysis for potential service providers to determine financial viability and potential risks.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable on an adhoc basis during periods of finance team leave.
Selection Criteria:
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferably working towards a professional accounting qualifications (CPA or CA).
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and the ability to analyse financial data.
- Ability to analyse complex financial information, identify problems, and propose solutions.
- Meticulousness in handling financial data and ensuring accuracy.
- Ability to explain financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a team environment.
