GP psychiatry support line

Free-to-call hotline for GPs to speak directly with a qualified psychiatrist about the mental health needs of their patients, including medication, diagnosis, treatment plans and more.

GPs will also receive a written summary of the relevant recommendation, for their medical records. The support line is not a triage or a referral service, nor an emergency service.

The over the phone advice can help you with:

  • Diagnosis
  • Medication eg, Multiple medications needing dose adjustments.
  • Investigation
  • Safety plan
  • Advice available for all age groups, including children and young adults.

Call the GP Psychiatry Support Line on 1800 16 17 18 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.

How to register

To access this service, please call 1800 161 718. You will need your AHPRA Registration Number, and practice details. Please note that you will need to register each GP within your practice. If you are unsure if all your GP’s are currently registered, please call 1800 161 718 for confirmation.

Registration generally takes less than two minutes.
