Motivational Interviewing Strategies to address domestic violence
This workshop is for GPs and other primary care providers to enhance skills on how to Identify and respond to patients presenting with experience or use of domestic violence through using appropriate motivational interviewing strategies.
Aim: To build skills in responding to patients experiencing or using domestic violence, using motivational interviewing strategies appropriate to the patient’s different stages of action and change
Learning outcomes:
- Identify patient stages of change when presenting with experience or use of domestic violence.
- Describe how to respond to different stages of change.
- Demonstrate how to use motivational interviewing strategies appropriately.
- Implement the stages of help-seeking for people who use domestic violence, for example, pre-contemplation to contemplation.
