Optimising Use of the National Cancer Screening Register: Access, Integration, and the Role of General Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related illness and death in Australia. However, with early detection, up to 70% of lung cancers can be diagnosed at an earlier, more treatable stage.
The National Lung Cancer Screening Program (the Program) is a major step toward reducing lung cancer-related illness and mortality in Australia. The Program targets high-risk individuals and encourages participation in routine, low-dose CT screening to detect lung cancer early and improve health outcomes.
The Program is an Australian Government initiative implemented by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing in partnership with Cancer Australia and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
