Health Intelligence Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health Intelligence Officer to join our future focused and rewarding organisation.

Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN is a not for profit organisation that works at a regional level to achieve improved whole of system health care.

Our key objectives are to:

  • increase the efficiency and effectiveness of health services for patients—particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes, and
  • improve coordination of care to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Our PHN achieves this by working with local health care stakeholders and community to:

  • fund programs and services based on local health needs;
  • support primary health care professionals, like GPs, general practice staff and allied health professionals, to improve the care they provide to their patients; and
  • support the development of a local sustainable health care workforce.

Key purpose of the role:

The Health Intelligence Officer is a new role (2 year contract) and is a data storyteller, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to develop health needs assessments that support data-driven commissioning and paint a picture of key health priorities for the region. This role is responsible for identifying service gaps and unmet health needs, giving a voice to any ‘invisible’ aspects to our evidence-base and proactively raising data collection opportunities to enhance our collective knowledge and understanding of the region.

Intelligence in this context, is about drawing together the interests of stakeholders, qualitative and quantitative information, and informing a robust and evidence-based response to need.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Stakeholder engagement: Collaborate with internal teams to be a trusted data partner that supports and helps to shape data-driven commissioning and healthcare planning.
  • Joint Regional Needs Assessment: Work closely with Hospital and Health Services stakeholders to collaborate on health needs assessments for the region and for each partner agency, and co-author the Joint Regional Needs Assessment bi-annually or as directed as a combined picture of the whole-of-healthcare system.
  • Data sourcing and storytelling: Guide internal stakeholders on appropriate sources of data or collaborate on the development of local data collection and community engagement exercises to support data-driven decision making. Translate data into actionable insights to inform population health planning and health system integration.
  • Project management: Coordinate health intelligence projects as directed, including developing frameworks for evaluation and monitoring progress against goals.
  • Report writing and communication: Prepare reports, briefing papers, needs assessments, and data visualisations to communicate findings and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.

About You:

  • You have a good understanding of public health data sets and can discover new sources.
  • You enjoy collaborating with stakeholders to ultimately improve health outcomes for our region
  • You are curious and connect all your insights back to the region-wide health needs picture
  • You have excellent written communication skills

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline, population / public health, health planning, epidemiology, and/or research and evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, engagement and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to establish confident relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to various audiences.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, needs assessment, and project management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the proven ability to work autonomously as well as effectively as a member of a high performing team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office based computing applications, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI.

Desirable

  • An understanding of the healthcare system.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trends, developments and issues in primary health care, particularly related to planning and evaluation.
  • Able to manipulate large amounts of information to develop large and complex documents for multiple audiences.
