Celebrating five years of community insight through the TALK ABOUT campaign
January 20, 2026
For the past five years, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN has invited people across the region to share their lived experiences of accessing and delivering healthcare through its community initiative, TALK ABOUT. Since the campaign began in January 2020, thousands of community members, health professionals, carers and service users have contributed valuable insights that are helping to shape improvements in local health services.
To mark this five-year milestone, the PHN has compiled a comprehensive report that brings together the key findings and insights gathered across the campaign. During this time, TALK ABOUT has received more than 2,500 responses across 23 health topics, creating a strong evidence base that highlights both what is working well and where improvements can be made throughout the Darling Downs and West Moreton region. Feedback has been gathered through a combination of online surveys and face-to-face local Kitchen Table Discussions, delivered in partnership with Health Consumers Queensland.
The campaign has explored a broad cross-section of issues that matter to local communities, including mental health, chronic disease, cancer screening, digital health, care closer to home, and the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Other focus areas have included support for young people, allied health services and priority populations, reflecting the diversity of healthcare needs across the region.
Insights shared by the community reflect the range of health challenges experienced across both rural and regional areas, while also highlighting many positive healthcare experiences. This feedback reinforces the importance of hearing directly from those who know the health system best and is used to identify service gaps, inform commissioning decisions, support strategic planning and contribute to the regional Health Needs Assessment - ensuring local voices guide future investment and improvement.
The PHN extends its sincere thanks to the many people who have taken the time to participate in TALK ABOUT over the past five years. Every contribution, whether large or small, has played an important role in strengthening the understanding of healthcare needs across the region. By sharing their stories and perspectives, participants have helped create a clearer picture of what matters most to local communities and ensured those voices continue to influence planning, commissioning and service improvement activities.
The TALK ABOUT campaign continues to invite participation, with upcoming topics in 2026 designed to spark further conversation about the healthcare experiences that matter most to people living and working across the Darling Downs and West Moreton region.
