PHN hosts inaugural GP Symposia

September 01, 2025

Across July and August, Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN (the PHN), in collaboration with West Moreton Health and Darling Downs Health, successfully hosted two GP Symposia to deepen clinical knowledge and strengthen the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare across the region.

The PHN was joined by 132 delegates between the two events at the Burke and Wills Hotel in Toowoomba and the Brookwater Golf and Country Club, of which 79% were GPs. The remainder comprised a mix of health professionals, including nurses and allied health professionals.

The symposia also welcomed 27 expert speakers and 29 exhibitors.

Speakers with expertise in key clinical topics such as cardiology, voluntary assisted dying, endocrinology, and more provided unique insights into regional healthcare referral pathways, practical tips, and navigation strategies that added valuable context and relevance to GPs in the region.

In addition, the symposia provided networking opportunities with peers and presenters, as well as the chance to connect GPs with service providers exhibiting to gain a deeper understanding of the services they refer their patients to.

The overall success of the symposia was clearly reflected in the feedback received from both delegates and exhibitors, with participants consistently rating their satisfaction of the symposia highly:

  • 9/10: Average rating for overall experience
  • 99%: Would recommend to a colleague
  • 83%: Of learning outcomes met

“Great opportunity to be more aware of local services,” said one delegate.

“Thought the symposium covered interesting topics with great speakers,” said another delegate.

These events reinforced the importance of locally delivered CPD activities for GPs to remain up-to-date with evolving healthcare knowledge, practices, and clinical skills to improve patient outcomes.

Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN extends sincere thanks to all speakers, exhibitors, and delegates for contributing to the success of the symposia and looks forward to building on this momentum for future events.
