Schedule
Wednesday, 29 April 2026: Law and order in your practice | 5:30pm - 7pm
Presenter: Ben Gouldson, CG Law
Intellectual Property Law
Understand how your clinic’s name, logo, and reputation are valuable business assets. Learn how to protect your brand, trademarks, and creative materials including copyright in written paraphernalia — and avoid common ownership mistakes that can cost you time and money. Being aware of the importance of research outputs and of the intellectual property rights attaching to those outputs is also essential.
Privacy Law and Data Breach Obligations
With sensitive patient information at the heart of every medical practice, compliance with the Privacy Act and the Mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme is more crucial than ever. Ben will guide you through practical steps to ensure your clinic meets its obligations and manages breaches effectively. Ben will also address likely future reforms based on the EU leading practice in this area of law, including the right to be forgotten and what that might mean for Australian medical practices.
Business Structures and Governance
Every practice - large or small - relies on sound business structures and governance frameworks. Gain clarity on how to choose and maintain the right legal business structure, manage risk, and align decision‑making with long‑term success.
TBC June 2026: MBS Billing
Presenter: Dr Ashley Van Leeuwestyn, Better Billing
Dr Ashley Van Leeuwestyn is a GP and co-founder of BetterBilling, with a strong focus on helping practices deliver high-quality, financially sustainable care. She has a particular interest in Medicare compliance, chronic disease management, and practical workflow improvements in general practice. Ashley works closely with clinics, PHNs, and GP teams across Australia to simplify complex billing rules and translate them into real-world systems that actually work in busy practices.
This practical session helps GPs and practice teams maximise compliant MBS billing. The first half covers GP Care Plans (items 965/967 GPCCMP), co-billing rules, and a full breakdown of Health Assessments (701–707) and the Menopause Health Assessment (695). It also explores Nurse-Initiated Care Item 10997 and how to optimise team-based billing opportunities. The second half focuses on commonly missed MBS item numbers — including ABI investigations, pregnancy tests, and 4001 Non-Directive Counselling related to pregnancy — helping practices identify revenue they may be leaving on the table. Using real patient examples and practical frameworks, this session equips attendees with the knowledge to bill accurately, confidently, and in accordance with MBS guidelines.
