Thriving Lockyer Kids joined by Western Downs Futures for PLACE Listening Tour
May 30, 2025
Earlier this month, the Thriving Lockyer Kids project team were joined by Western Downs Futures for a PLACE Listening Tour.
Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment (PLACE) is a national organisation that supports the adoption and impact of place-based approaches in local communities across Australia.
PLACE hit the road to highlight initiatives that are driven by community-led approaches to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families—working across health, education, employment, inclusion, and justice to create stronger, more resilient communities.
As part of their roadshow, they stopped in to hear firsthand about place-based change happening through the Thriving Lockyer Kids initiative.
Thriving Lockyer Kids is a place-based initiative that supports children and families to thrive. It’s supported by the Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership, which is bringing people together to leverage the growing interest in place-based work.
A place-based approach in primary health care refers to improving people's health outcomes by focusing on the specific needs, strengths, and challenges of the local area where they live - their "place."
Led locally, the PHN works in collaboration with Together4Lockyer, Kambu Health, University of Southern Queensland, Our Heartland, and the Queensland Department of Education.
The PHN’s involvement in this growing place-based initiative which is deeply listening to community, learning, and acting together, reflects the PHN’s commitment to the health of young people, which is an investment in the future health of the Lockyer Valley community.
