BERTIE (Better lives for residents through innovative education)
A comprehensive and evidence-based education package named BERTIE – Better lives for residents through innovative education – has been created to upskill the aged care workforce and help improve the lives of residents.
Designed and developed in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, the BERTIE education package aims to build capacity and capability in the residential aged care workforce and supports both clinical and non-clinical staff to recognise and manage early signs of deteriorating health of residents.
The comprehensive and informative package is engaging and easy to digest and is designed to be undertaken at a pace that suits individual learners. Each module consists of a short video, summary sheet and quick quiz. The wide range of topics included in the BERTIE training package cover subjects such as pain assessment, communication, advanced care planning, how to assess acute deterioration, movement and mobility, and palliative care.
BERTIE is now free to all residential aged care workers across Australia and can be accessed through the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission’s ALIS platform.
Telehealth training: November 2024
We support people working in residential aged care homes (RACH) by enhancing their digital capacity, allowing better access to primary care services through virtual consultations when clinically appropriate.
Our PHN partnered with fifteen other PHNs across Australia to develop a comprehensive training package for staff in RACHs and the primary care providers who service them, including nurses, GPs, specialists and allied health professionals.
The telehealth training resources offer flexible and interactive learning experience for clinical and non-clinical staff such as essential telehealth skills, communication between healthcare providers, practical skills for using telehealth technology in aged care settings.
