Imaging of Parathyroid Adenomas

Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) can lead to significant long-term complications if left untreated. Accurate preoperative localisation of parathyroid adenomas is essential for successful minimally invasive surgery.

Learning outcomes:
• Review embryology, anatomy and variant anatomy of the parathyroid glands
• Review pathogenesis of PHPT and potential disease mimics
• Emphasise role of imaging in PHPT
• Discuss the available and emerging imaging modalities and techniques, including their strengths and weaknesses
• Discuss the interpretation of negative or discordant scans
• Q&A session
